Construction Work Signing Day for Academy of Craft Training
We’re all familiar with high school “Signing Days,” when athletes sign letters of intent to play on college sports teams. But what about students heading straight into a career, instead of going to a four-year college?
April 24 was “Construction Work Signing Day” for graduates of the Academy of Craft Training in Birmingham, AL. Nearly ninety high school seniors signed full-time employment offers in the construction industry. This is a huge accomplishment for these young adults! 50+ contractors attended the event, and students signed on with 22 different companies.
The trend in the U.S. over the past few decades has leaned heavily toward the four-year degree path. As a result, we’re facing a huge shortage of skilled tradespeople, and the gap between experienced and entry-level construction professionals is growing. With an aging workforce, young, skilled laborers are in high demand.
About the Academy of Craft Training
The Academy of Craft Training is a public-private partnership between the Alabama K-12 school system and Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama.
Eldeco is a supportive partner to the Academy of Craft Training. “We’ve been involved since the inception of the Academy. They do a great job educating the future leaders of our industry,” says Leland Busby, Vice President of Eldeco’s Birmingham branch.
On Signing Day, a total of 5 students signed on for their first careers with Eldeco. Congratulations, graduates!
