National Burn Awareness Week ABA

National Burn Awareness Week: February 4-10, 2018

Electrical safety is a topic that electricians are trained to think about daily, but the reality is that electrical fires could affect anyone – from children to the elderly to healthy adults.

The American Burn Association observes National Burn Awareness Week during the first full week of February. The purpose of National Burn Awareness Week is for organizations like Eldeco to “mobilize burn, fire and life safety educators to unite in sharing a common burn awareness and prevention message in our communities.” (Ameriburn.org)

As an electrical design contracting company, Eldeco holds an important role in our community. We aim to educate and protect the public from electrical fires and the things that cause them.

Facts about Electrical Burns:

The following facts are provided by the American Burn Association. For more information or to view the full infographic, click here.

  • Burns are one of the leading causes of unintentional death and injury in the U.S.
  • Electrical burns are one of the leading causes of burn injuries, along with fire flames, contact with hot objects and chemicals.
  • 24% of all burn injuries occur in children under the age of 15.
  • While most people (96.7%) treated for burns will survive, many will suffer from life-long scarring and physical disabilities.

We are an Intervening Organization When It Comes to Fire Prevention

Eldeco’s fifth company absolute states, “We are an intervening organization.” If any Eldeco employee notices a potential safety hazard, he or she is encouraged to intervene, stop work and prevent an accident. This practice is especially relevant as we enter 2018 with the safety campaign, “Are You S.A.F.E.?,” which strives for excellence in safety.
