Safety: It’s Not Just For Job Sites
You don’t need to spend much time at Eldeco to see that our commitment to safety impacts everything we do. Because we believe that people matter, it’s our mission to inspire everyone on our team to take safety home and make it part of their daily life – not just something that stays at work.
With this in mind, we’d like to share a story about one of our employees, Jimmy Ramos. Jimmy recently went to have some work done on his car at a shop where he knows the guys very well. While he was standing in the shop with them talking about car issues and solutions, Jimmy noticed one of the other guys grinding on a bracket mount, holding a muffler – and not wearing safety glasses.
Jimmy approached the gentleman and asked why he wasn’t wearing glasses. After taking the time to explain the danger of working without eye protection, Jimmy asked, “If you had some glasses that fit well, would you wear them?” The gentleman replied that he would. Jimmy said, “Hold on… I’ll be right back.”
Jimmy went to his truck, grabbed his own pair of safety glasses and gave them to the auto worker. Later, the other workers told Jimmy that just one week ago the very same employee had gotten a piece of metal removed from his eye.
Before Jimmy left the shop, the gentleman thanked him for the glasses. And a week later, when Jimmy returned to the garage to look at another car, he found the gentleman still wearing those safety glasses.
