Eldeco Awarded Partnership in GE Aviation Project

Eldeco is proud to announce that it has been awarded the electrical construction for GE Aviation’s new $200 million silicon carbide materials project in Huntsville, AL.

The development consists of two adjacent facilities which will produce silicon carbide (SiC) materials used to manufacture ceramic matrix composite (CMC) components for jet engines and land-based gas turbines. One plant, the first of its kind in the United States, will produce SiC ceramic fiber. The second factory will use the SiC ceramic fiber to produce the CMC tape needed to create CMC components. Together, the two facilities will employ 300 people.

“We’re honored to be chosen by BL Harbert as the electrical contractors for this project,” said Allen McKinney, President of Eldeco, Inc. “GE Aviation has an impressive history of innovation and quality, and we’re looking forward to partnering with this team on these world-class facilities.”

Construction on the tape plant is slated for completion in 2017, with the second facility following in 2018. When the plants begin operating, GE Aviation will sell fiber to the Department of Defense, GE businesses, Herakles (Safran) and other customers subject to federal regulations.
